Avid golfers will go to favored golf destinations with friends or family members who also love to play. Occasionally couples will go on golf vacations, but this can be an issue of if one person is not as enamored with the game as his partner. For those who can afford it, golf vacations are often separate from family vacations.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Myrtle Beach is one of the top golf destinations in the country. There is a wide variety of beautiful golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area that makes it an ideal spot for any golfer. Some of the top courses include South Creek, The River Course, Caledonia, Willowbrook Plantation, Oyster Bay and Moorland.
Greens fees for these and the dozens of other courses in the area vary greatly, but a golfer can find several bargains in Myrtle Beach and can tee off for as little as $39 for 18 holes. There are quite a few excellent restaurants in the area and the accommodations are solid. Myrtle Beach is an outstanding golf destination.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas may be the destination of choice for gamblers, but golf enthusiasts will have some of the top courses in the country if they choose Sin City as their destination. Siena Golf Course opened in 2000 and is one of the most challenging courses with 97 pot bunkers.
The Secretariat Course at Stallion Mountain Country Club is a 7,223-yard monster that requires long and accurate driving. Bali Hai Golf is one of the most ornate and beautiful courses anywhere in the United States. It’s a 7,001-yard course that requires accurate driving and excellent green play.
Orlando, Florida
Not everybody can take multiple vacations. Sometimes you might want to combine a golf vacation with a family vacation. In this case, Orlando may be your top choice. Your family can spend their days in Disney World while you play golf at one of the many available courses.
The Celebration Golf Course has been recognized for its beauty and challenging nature by Golf Digest. It is loaded with trees and bunkers. Hawk’s Landing Golf Club is a well-kept course loaded with tall palms and other native vegetation. Ridgewood Lakes Golf Club is long but fair. It measures over 7,000 yards but has wide fairways that can be very forgiving.South Florida
Some of the most challenging golf courses in the country can be found in South Florida. If you consider yourself a long hitter, try the Blue Monster at the Doral Country Club. This course measures in at 7,291 yards and has been known to bring even the best golfers to their knees because of the course’s demanding nature.
Westview Country Club does not have the Blue Monster’s length (6,592 yards), but it requires great shot making because of its narrow fairways. The Miami Shores Country Club is somewhat easier than many of the courses mentioned, but it is a very enjoyable experience.
California
When it comes to spectacular golf vistas, no state has California beaten. Most golfers are familiar with the oft-televised Pebble Beach Golf Course, which has hosted so many important golf tournaments, including the U.S. Open.
Other great courses include Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Oak Quarry in Riverside, El Dorado Park Golf Course in Long Beach and the Admiral Baker Golf Course in San Diego. California courses all have their own distinct personality, but the terrain almost always makes it challenging and beautiful.
